Bioware, the stellar company behind such hit franchises Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Neverwinter Nights and the original Knights of the Old Republic, have been very hard at work over the past five years on Star Wars: The Old Republic. What is The Old Republic (TOR) you ask? It's the massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) being collaborated along with Lucasarts. And this my friends, will be a Star Wars MMO done right. (I'm looking at you Star Wars: Galaxies)
The setting goes that 300 years after the events of KOTOR, the Sith Empire has returned from deep space to wage war against the Galactic Republic. After decades of fighting, the Sith Empire extend to the Republic a peace treaty; A reprieve the Republic sorely needs as they know they can't win the war. Republic officials agree to meet with Sith lords on the planet Alderaan with most of the senior Jedi serving as security. This was all a clever ruse, however, as the Sith launched an attack on the Republic's capital world of Coruscant, destroying the Jedi Temple, and occupying the planet, holding it hostage as negotiations restarted and the Republic was forced to agree to all of the Empire's terms.
This is but a brief preview to wet your appetite and get you interested for the game that I have been impatiently waiting for since it was first announced. In the coming weeks I will go more in depth with each class, tell you all about companions and the robust crafting system, explore the personal spaceships and space combat sequences, a little bit about the timeline, setting, and history, Flashpoints, and PvP.
